It cannot handle fast, percussive peaks with precision. Its release is unpredictable. It adds harmonic saturation from the 12AX7 tube, which colours everything. It has no ratio, threshold, attack or release controls — so it gives no fine-grained response to source material.

EMI REDDEMIThe EMI REDD was not a product. It was Abbey Road’s first custom-built, vacuum-tube-based stereo mixing system — engineered in-house, adapted for four-track tape, and retired when it could not scale beyond four outputs.
