How it works, in terms a player would use
It plays sampled acoustic instrument sounds and oscillator waveforms stored in ROM. Compression shrinks the samples. Twelve separate DACs convert them to analog. CEM 3335 analog envelopes restore dynamics lost in compression. You trigger up to 12 notes at once — layered or single sounds.
What it does better than anything else
It reproduces acoustic grand piano sound more faithfully than any electronic instrument before 1984. Its contoured modelling + CEM 3335 envelope system restores expressive dynamics no other sampler of its time matched.
What it does badly
It offers no user sampling. It cannot record or manipulate samples. Its polyphony caps at 12 notes — insufficient for dense pads or orchestral layering. There is no built-in effects processing or modulation matrix.
