How it works, in terms a player would use
It uses a diamond-pattern joystick to mix four digital oscillators per voice. Each oscillator selects from 127 waveforms: 0–31 are editable user waves, 32–126 are fixed in firmware, and 127 is noise. User waves can be edited onboard—mixed from up to four sources or adjusted harmonically like additive synthesis. All four oscillators feed into analog CEM3379/3389 chips for filtering and amplification.
What it does better than anything else
It vector-mixes four digital waveforms in real time with tactile immediacy—no other 1986 instrument does this. Its hybrid path gives digital precision with analog warmth in the same signal chain. The user wave editor lets you build custom timbres from scratch without external hardware.
What it does badly
It offers no velocity or aftertouch response. The joystick has no spring return or calibration. Wave editing is slow and menu-dense. Voices drop out under complex vector moves. There is no built-in effects, sequencer, or patch memory backup beyond internal RAM.
