How it works, in terms a player would use
It samples at 12-bit resolution with three fixed rates: 15.625, 31.250, and 41.667 kHz. It has 256 kilowords of sample memory — one word per 12-bit sample. It plays back with 8-voice polyphony, up to 8 layers, and includes an arpeggiator. MIDI In, Out, and Thru let it sync with other gear.
What it does better than anything else
It delivers warmth where later samplers sound sterile — thanks to analog VCFs and VCAs shaping the digital playback. It was among the earliest multitimbral samplers, letting you assign different samples to different MIDI channels without layering them in one voice.
What it does badly
It offers no real-time sample editing. You cannot trim, loop or pitch-shift samples on the fly. Memory is fixed and non-expandable. The 12-bit resolution limits dynamic range and introduces grain even at the highest sample rate. Its keyboard format locks you into a fixed physical layout with no external control surface.
