It loads patches from DX21/DX27/DX100 and nearly matches the DX11 — but without the DX11’s pitch EG or keyboard.

What it does better than anything else

It was the first FM synth to offer oscillator waveforms beyond sine waves. That gives it timbres unavailable on the DX7, DX9, or earlier Yamaha FM synths — especially in basses, plucks, and metallic leads.
